“I find hope in the darkest of days, and focus in the brightest. I do not judge the universe.”     Dalai Lama

Do you have a belief that you have to pursue as high academic achievement as possible to achieve success? Do you feel that everybody around you seems to be pursuing higher degrees of education and as such you have to follow them if you don’t want to be left behind? With the increasing global competition, it’s only natural if anybody wants to get as high academic achievement as possible. But do you think this will guarantee your success in life?

A study by an American scientist, Dr. Eli Ginzberg, which involved 342 graduates of Colombia University, revealed an amazing story. Those who graduated with the highest academic achievements tend to have mediocre achievements in their career. This shows that there is no direct correlation between academic and career achievements.

So… what’s the key to success then? The real key to success is having a positive self-concept. The better your self-concept, the easier it’s for you to achieve success in life. It’s like the operating system of your computer. No matter how fast your processor is, if your operating system doesn’t work efficiently, you will get an inefficient and error-prone system.

You can easily recognize whether a person has a negative or positive self-concept from the behaviors. A person who has negative concept usually has low self esteem, low self confidence and many other inferior behaviors. While one who has positive self-concept usually brims with optimism, self confidence and other traits of a great leader.

So, how do self hypnosis techniques fit into this? There are several easy self hypnosis techniques that can be used to build a positive self-concept:

1. Affirmations. To minimize the resistance that your mind might offer, you should do your affirmations while you are in a trance/hypnosis state. You can also do this while you’re feeling sleepy and about to go to bed, since in this state your mind will also offer minimum resistance. A sample affirmation that you can use might be “Everyday I am becoming more confident with my ability to achieve success!”. Please remember to do this regularly.

2. Visualization. To achieve the best result, try to do your visualization while you’re in a trance state as described above. Basically imagine in your mind what kind of self-concept you want to develop. Imagine the kind of person you want to become. Be as detailed as possible when visualizing and try to use all your senses to have the most optimum result.

“This shows that there is no direct correlation between academic and career achievements”. Who ever said there was?.
There seems to be a misconception that relates academic learning to career success. Academic achievement is purely attaining learning and knowledge and understanding of subject.

  7. Rin says:

    Kenj,

Basically, positive thinking is just an attitude of mentally focusing on the positive aspects/best outcome in any situation. While, Self hypnosis is a tool to help you enter a certain condition (known as trance state), where you can bypass your critical factor and yet still able to perform acceptable selective thinking.

Positive thinking can be done while you’re in an awake state via affirmations or any other means, but most of the times your critical factor will interfere with your effort. Alternatively, you can also combine positive thinking with self hypnosis to bypass the interference and create a really powerful effect. This can be done via visualization or affirmation techniques.

I hope this helps in answering your question.

    Nice post Rin.

For beginners I would recommend the course you mention in the article, that way they have a foundation of how self hypnosis works. If they start out just using affirmations they most likely won’t have the success they need to further pursue this self development tool and the benefits it offers.
